If the five steps and the 100 per cent methods for clearing out a wardrobe didn't work for you, there is a ruthless third option to help thin out your wardrobe.
If you've been struggling to get rid of the final few pieces of your wardrobe that you never wear yet can't bear to part with; pieces you love the look of but don't ever wear because they either no longer suit your current style; because you don't want to feel you have wasted money, or because you own a similar piece that you prefer to wear - this method is for you.
It's very easy to slip unworn items back into your wardrobe when you're dealing with them en mass. Here's how to banish truly unwanted clothing from your wardrobe once and for all.
Separate your wardrobe into three sections:- clothes you always wear
- clothes you sometimes wear
- clothes you never wear
The only question to ask yourself when sorting your wardrobe this time is "when was the last time I wore this?" If it is an item of clothing you wear on a weekly basis, it goes into the "always" section; if it has been worn but only in the last fortnight to a month it goes into the "sometimes" section; if you can't remember the last time you worn it, it goes into "never" section.
The "always, sometimes, never" separation technique provides a much more effective visual incentive to stop making excuses for pointless items and get rid of them. Seeing a whole chunk of wardrobe you never wear hanging together makes you realise quite how much you're hoarding and how much clutter it's causing in your wardrobe.
