American Museum of Natural History

I have visited a lot of natural history museums and this - the American Museum of Natural History - is possibly the best. Full of the most amazing dioramas dating back to the 1920s; incredible attention has been paid to the backgrounds with skilled taxidermy framed by heavy wood and metal plaques, I was in total awe. I have to admit, the American Museum of Natural History was one of the main reasons I wanted to visit New York and it totally didn't disappoint.

  1. All of these photos are really striking and interesting to look at. Their is something so unsettling about taxidermy to me, it really does take me a moment to realise they're not alive.

  2. I've lost track of how many times I visited the Swedish Museum of Natural History as a child. I absolutely loved it. But the American one looks about ten times more amazing. Definitely another reason to go to New York!

  10. i loved the natural history museum! although i have to say my favourite part of the whole place is the planetarium and the rose centre for earth and space. it was a great balance between general knowledge and actually being really informative and i went to a couple of presentations in the planetarium while i was in NY and i swear if i lived there i would go to every one!

  24. Wow! I had no idea that taxidermy could look this amazing, at first I thought these were an artists rendering or a photorealistic painting before I read your post. I had no idea this was even a place and I now I think I'll go visit.
