  1. Morning sophie! So when you say 75... You mean actual, SEVENTY FIVE??!! that's so many books! I'm so impressed and can't even fathom how you can fit in that amount of reading /the speed you must read?
I have a book on the go most the time, and probably have read about 10!
    Do you speed read?
Ps. Thanks for the suggestions :-)

  2. Currently reading The Secret History, and I'm loving it. And high-five for meeting and surpassing reading targets! :) (Mine currently stands at 26 books out of a goal of 20!)

  4. I've read The Secret History this year as well, and loved it too. It's such a strong story, I really enjoyed how it was written. Have you read Tartt's other books as well? They're on my Kobo but I haven't gotten to reading them yet.

  5. I thought The Secret History was amazing; I tried to read The Goldfinch earlier this year.. but I got halfway through and lost momentum. It's LONG and quite drawn out, it doesn't flow the way The Secret History does. I will hopefully finish it, the story was OK and I could sense it was going somewhere, but it just dragged a little.

  7. Awesome - congratulations for smashing your target too! :))
Do you have a target in mind for next year?

  8. Well.. actually.. I'm on 79! And I imagine I will get a couple more read before the end of the year :))

It's honestly not that many if you break it down into weeks, one and a half to two books per week. I am, admittedly, a very fast reader so reading one to two books a week isn't really much of a challenge for me, it's quite a leisurely pace. Next year I'm aiming for 100-150 because I get quite lazy; I reached my 52 book target halfway through the year and sort of.. gave up trying. I want to really push myself next year.

I don't, as a rule, speed read but I will if I've got 75% of the way through a book I'm not really enjoying. I don't see the point in wasting time on books that aren't so great. I don't speed read books I'm enjoying - which is almost all of them. I think, during the year, I only read a couple of books I didn't like.

The more you read, the quicker you get plus setting aside some time every day to read is really important. I make sure I read for at least an hour a day :))

  9. Thank youu! :)
I want to have a target for sure, but I'm still unsure as to what to aim for. I'm thinking 25 or 30. Hmmm, maybe I'll go for 30 and really push myself.
What about your target for next year? :)

  10. I'm thinking the same thing - I really want to push myself next year. I'm going to set my target at 100 but push for 150; I think 100 will be reasonably easy to achieve but 150 might be quite tough because I know there will be certain times in the year where I just can't read as much. We'll see! :))

  12. I want to read more and I know I definitely could have if I'd just tried harder - I think next year I am going to try to reach 100 maybe even 150 :))

  13. I guess, and of course I see the break down, but I'm a book per month kinda girl, and that's pushing myself! (I'm a very bad girl to run a book club!)
I guess I only do 5-10 minutes per day... it's my way to fall asleep almost?

  14. Holy crap! 75 books is insane! More reading is on my new years resolutions list.
How did you keep track of what books you'd read? Did you just jot them down on a notebook?

I recently started reading The Secret History after seeing it featured in some of your book lists. I'm still unsure as to how I feel about it, but it's definitely intriguing. Thanks for the post! xx

  26. It definitely isn't for everyone so you might not like it as much as I did, it's very somber.. the story is quite dark, especially for this time of year!

  27. Omg 75 books! WOW
I never reach my goal :'( and my goal was very low haha. But I still have about 2 weeks left to read a few books haha

  29. Good work on 75. I've not been so prolific this year (er, all three Bob the cat books?) but I was wanting to know how you found the Kobo? I am contemplating getting an e reader but was unsure how much use I'd get out of it. Moving 5 time sin 4 years has made me rue my book collection! So it would be nice to find a balance, especially for new ones or books I can't get from the library. Do you have any preference to real books vs reader? x

  30. Same here! I set myself 60 to read originally but managed to get over 80 :) The Secret History definitely made it into my top 5 fiction reads too! Would love to read The Penelopiad and Farmageddon...though I'm scared the latter would put me off meat. x
