BRB - Going To Japan

Pastel Suitcases & Map Passport CoverFlamingo Gifts

This is a little unexpected.. we're flying out to Tokyo, Japan tomorrow.

This trip was spontaneously booked only two weeks ago; we went from talking about it to booking the flights within a day. We got a sweet deal on air miles, our calendars only allowed us a brief window of time to work with, and then we realised the company we're flying with are cancelling all flights to Japan after January - it was either now or who-knows-when-maybe-never. So we went for it. Just like New York, Tokyo is one of those "dream holidays" for us and you have to take these opportunities when they arise. I just knew 2015 was going to be awesome.

As usual there will be scheduled content while I am away, we'll be vlogging the whole trip, and you can follow our Tokyo adventure via Instagram - here and here. See you when we get back!

  1. You're going to have a lot of fun! I've never been to Tokyo before, but was in Osaka last October. The Japanese are lovely people (communication might be a little tough though) and I'm very sure Tokyo has a lot of crazy fun things to offer. Have a good load of fun – I'll look forward to your travel post when you get back. :)

  23. I wish I could remember some specific recommendations to give you for Tokyo, but I went 10 years ago and my brain is rubbish. But the one place that really sticks with me is the "Blade Runner street" in Shinjuku: http://www.tofugu.com/2012/11/23/tokyos-infamous-piss-alley/

You're going to have the most incredible time! One of my favourite countries even. Make sure you go to a maid cafe - they're as surreal as they sound - and walk through a gaming room. It's all the sounds - brings me right back to the days of Pokemon on gameboy.

    Have fun!

  32. OMGsh! Have fun! Tokyo is amazing! It is makeup paradise! Go to Matsumoto Kiyoshi and grab all the cosmetics you can! Also Yoyogi Park on Sundays. I wonder if the rockabilly Elvis is still there. They are so entertaining! Also Harajuku gyoza. It's the best and dead cheap!

  33. I didn't buy any cosmetics (because of the animal testing laws) but I had an awesome time buying loads of ridiculously cute things and stationery!

  50. I won't be vlogging but Jack will, it's his thing :)) I'm not that into it but it really is fun to keep a film of all the places we have been. I don't really like most people's vlogs though, they're.. boring.. nobody does anything!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I want to go back.

  52. It was so spontaneous! It literally was: "shall we go to Tokyo?" "...OK." and then we booked it and two weeks later was flying out. It felt surreal. It really was a now-or-never kind of thing though, the airline we collect air miles with isn't flying to Tokyo anymore after our flight back.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thank you SO MUCH for your suggestions, they were super useful. Tokyo is amazing (like I knew it would be) and I didn't want to leave; I want to go back and, like you say, get out of Tokyo. I'd like to go for as long as possible and see more of the city but also the rural areas.

The weather was OK in Tokyo, pretty much the same as the UK, even a bit warmer.. except for a couple of evenings and the last day when it snowed! Absolutely amazing city.

  54. Thank you so much. I want to revisit next year and see more than just Tokyo (although I still have so much left to do in the city!)

  70. I actually think vlogging could be really fun, but I have no filming skills whatsoever, and being the artistic perfectionist that I am, I would want the video to be high quality with well-panned shots and perfectly chosen music. Which would be less of a vlog actually, and just more of some artsy fartsy video of some place I have visited. I actually do like watching certain people's vlogs, but mostly they actually make me kind of depressed when you see how little people really are up to, but how much cash flow is flowing in. It's kind of weird.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I feel the same way. I see a lot of people making decent money from YT/blogging and I wonder why they don't do more. But I guess maybe some people are happy just to chill at home, and who am I to judge that? They might hate travelling! I just feel as though sometimes people don't realise the opportunities they have right in front of them.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I completely agree. I do not want to judge anyone else, and if someone has fallen into a lot of success and money, even if they may have not done much to get it and may not even still be doing much to maintain it but are able to maintain it by the standards of the general population, who am I to say they do not deserve it? I just know that I personally would be using that money either to re-invest into my blog (or youtube channel - if I had one) to make it an even more exciting place to be.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I was petrified at what I would come across, but actually it wasn't anywhere near as sinister as I thought... just rather odd! So glad you loved it. :D
