Snapchat is quickly becoming the place to be; it's a fun social messaging app encouraging individualism and high engagement. If you think you have read all there is to know about Snapchat (including my beginner's guide) you may think you're a seasoned Snapchat user. Here are nine pro Snapchat tips you may not have discovered yet.
1 | Use Transparent Colour
This one is for Android users only. There is a transparent colour option for applying to text or drawing on the screen. Open the colour palette by tapping the pen icon (top left) hold down on the colour bar to bring up the full palette and on the bottom row you’ll find the transparent option.
2 | Change The Text Size
Tap the screen to bring up the text bar and write your caption. By tapping on the T icon you can change the text font and style, tapping the icon again will centre the caption. By pinching or pulling, you can resize the text and move it around to position it.
3 | Apply Multiple Filters
You can apply coloured filters and geolocation tags by swiping left on your snap. To apply another filter over the top simply hold one finger on the screen while you swipe left again to scroll through the options.
4 | Draw Straight Lines
To draw a straight line place and hold one finger on the screen and then place and hold another finger on the screen where you want your line to be drawn, release the first finger you placed and a straight line will be drawn. (This may not work for iPhone users.)
5 | Take Hands-Free Video Snaps
By using the assistive touch feature you can set up your phone to take hands-free snaps. But if you don’t want the minor hassle of setting it up or if you’re an Android user and don’t have the assistive option, here’s a really easy way to take hands-free snaps. Take a hair band that fits snugly over your phone and place your phone into a tripod; when you’re ready to take a video snap slide the band over the volume button on your phone and this will trigger Snapchat to start videoing allowing you to take completely hands-free snaps.
6 | Create A Makeshift Remote Control
Plug a pair of earphones with a clickable volume button into your phone and you can make your earphones act as a remote to take picture snaps from a long distance. Simply press the volume button on the earphones and Snapchat will take a photograph - great for long distance group selfies.
7 | See Who's Watching
By expanding your Snapchat story you can see how many people have viewed and screen grabbed your snaps, you can even find out exactly who those people are. Use the three dots to expand your story and next to each snap you will see the number of viewers (eye icon) and number of screenshots (arrow icon.) By tapping on individual snaps you can see a list of users who viewed and screen grabbed that snap.
8 | Download Snaps
You can download snaps before you send them to friends but if you have already added something to your story, which you wished you had saved, you can. Go to the stories page and expand your story by pressing the three dots icon. Tap on the snap you wish to download, in the bottom right corner you will see a download icon. Tapping this icon will allow you to save individual snaps, alternatively you can download your entire story by using the icon next to your story feed.
9 | Save Conversations
Snapchat makes everything disappear, which makes Snapchat conversations a little frustrating. Hold down on text you want to keep and you’ll see a line appear next to it indicating it has been saved; even if you swipe out of the screen or close the app, when you return the text will still be there so you can carry on the conversation.
