This list contains independent brands who try hard to maintain ethical and humane standards for both their workers and the manufacturing processes. Please feel free to leave comments with your suggestions, opinions, or corrections. This list is a work in progress and will be updated regularly alongside the corresponding Ethical and Independent Brands Pinterest board.
As a side note in regards to the term "ethical," we have to be careful here for what is ethical to one person may not be ethical to another. Some of these brands sell leather, wool, silk, and other materials from an animal source, others use materials that rely on oil for production. These are just a couple of ways a brand may or may not be deemed "ethical" by some people; I don't want to dictate the meaning of ethical to anyone so I leave that up to you to choose.
Unfortunately, UK-based independent fashion brands are hard to come by and I really struggled to identify the ethical brands available for European consumers. A lot of non-UK based brands ship to the UK but some don’t; I’d love to hear about more accessible independent ethical labels, so please do leave a comment with your suggestions.
