I’m still battling with a wardrobe that isn’t exactly suited to summer, it’s getting there but it's not quite perfect just yet. I’m missing a key few pieces such as a hat and a swimsuit; a couple more lightweight dresses and I’ll be all-seasons appropriate. So in the final weeks of summer, I'm offering a few essential summer accessories instead.

Sunglasses are undoubtedly an essential for keeping the sun’s glare out of your eyes and protecting against skin damage. This pair by Marc Jacobs never fails to get compliments with their unique shape, “unfinished” frame, and slightly oversized style. Black or tortoiseshell frames work with anything and everything so even if you prefer a more classic style - like aviators - pick a pair in a neutral colour-way.

Unless you’re going to the beach, in which case a tote might be more practical, a classic clutch is all you’ll need on a typical summer’s day to allow you to travel light. This miniature camera bag by Whistles might be tiny but it’s a study little thing; I’ve never had any trouble squeezing in the daily essentials, and the detachable chain makes it more versatile than most. If you’re searching for a roomier bag, Everlane has a range of bags suitable for any summer occasion.

You’ve got a lot of options here from ultra-casual flip-flops to wedges or flats, whatever you plump for make sure they’re practical or at least comfortable. If you pick the right pair, sandals can be stylishly casual and chic. I have one pair of flat strap sandals that are suitable for short strolls and picnics at the park with a hard working pair of Birkenstocks in reserve for when I’ve got more miles to cover.

Jewellery switches up every outfit and can make an oh-so-casual summer dress into something a little less relaxed. On the hottest of summer days, a simple necklace and effortless earrings would suffice; in the evenings, layering up a few delicate pieces adds the final finishing touch. I’ve been wearing these lightweight, fuss-free arc earrings daily and layering minimalist jewellery with these two - a slender needle necklace paired with a square drop necklace.

Skin Care

It goes without saying: always (re)apply sunscreen regularly in summer. It’s also advised to pamper your skin with gentle, soothing products like Grown Alchemist’s range of organic skin care with botanical ingredients and natural actives. The facial kit has everything you need to keep your skin looking fresh and dewy in summer with a repairing day cream, lip balm, anti-oxidant serum, gel facial cleanser, and balancing toner. Spend a little extra time in evenings to treat your skin after a long day in the sunshine; moisturise regularly (and liberally) and use a gentle exfoliator to keep skin looking fresh.
